garments 01 & 02

ok dont mind the mess in this bitch sorry excuse me sorry. i forgot to scan the inital sketches i made and at this point im like ok its half a spread im not going to bother, but i basically just took inspiration from some really like raw grunge shit. i researched demna gvasalia's upbringing in georgia during the ussr, the commie blocks he grew up in, the genocide of the georgians and all that, and how clothes were like viewed as being luxurious within that sphere of poverty. adidas was something that came up a lot, so i figured i could take a bunch of adidas shit apart and sew it together to make my own thing, and thats what i did. this one looks cool, i like the shape, its really edgy, and i like how that contrasts the material qualities of the sweats that are really soft and fluid, well, not fluid, but like not rigid, or heavy, its lightweight

ok um here you can see me pinning down a stripe i stripped from another garment and sewing it onto this one. i kind of wanted it to break from the 3 stripe bullshit i was like if im going to botch something i should do it right, like this shit should genuinely be like i got it out of the garbage. it was also during this that i realized that the stripes arent just, like, like each individual stripe isnt just a stripe, its folded in two places, i saw that i was like damn thats crazy, i mean, it does make sense, but its like, huh i never knew that. also due to this the shit i sewed on it looked a lot more frayed and like worn.

aw my balenci boot peaking out at the bottom hehe

this is the garment, at like a primitive stage but worn by a mannequin. no im not showing you the front coz theres tits, i know you want to see them, i included that picture in one of the CHOE campaigns actually, i dont you remember, only my homegirl does. while i fucked with this design, i felt it wasnt transformative enough, and if this were to like be something, i could just sew two pieces together and add a few stripes on top, thats the type of shit people who think they love virgil but know nothing about anything do and think they the next big thing, no shade, yes shade. this silhouette is really ill though like idk i like the fit a lot no lie. i was like, with my starting point in mind, what would be some shit that like, an alexandyr would put together hastily and try to decorate to stand out and try to be like more luxurious or rich amongst his community, of you know, the soviet slum.

i was also thinking at the same time like, ok this is derivative of this thing, everything is derivative of something else if you think about it for like half a second, but how could i make this more choe, like break through the borders within which i commenced this project, i decided that photography and campaigns were the answer, you'll see more of that.

ok thats all the photos i have of that first garment before the photoshoot, hang in there for a bit we'll get to that i promise. i like this sketch, its cool, i like the face. "oh why u got shit over the eyes" ok first off mind your business, second off i fucked them up and i was like ok how can i fix this and i just did the easiest thing i could think of. also i have the dimensions for the letters on the CHOE scarf on the left of the spread, how cute.

while this is a nice drawing, it wasnt really indicative of anything, like u give this to someone they know you drew someone wearing clothes, but i dont think they'd know what i actually sketched, so i thought id redraw that shit.

i need to stop starting every single thing i saw with ok its getting a little repetitive. these are the followup sketches i made, i think they look good. i dont fuck with the one on the left, i was trying to go for something different, missed the mark, by a long shit, it looks messy, but thankfully i got the right page looking good and sexy so im keeping this spread for this reason alone. you can see what im trying to do more clearly here, its the four sleeves, i know demna been done this shit already, and i thought that taking something that directly from his own work would be aligned with his philosophy, so i thought i might as well do it.

wow this scan lowkey super detailed. here you can see like, what i did in the previous spread, except its like more visually aligned to what im aiming for visually for the garment, you can see the stripes, you can see i wrote CHOE over the front, i kind of wanted the branding to be loud, or like create mystique, like, oh what is that? what is CHOE? im realizing now that theres a big contradiction between like the non chalance and like image im trying to portray in my clothes and in the way i be writing on here but who give a fuck. you can see also on the right side of the spread that i designed some like shoulder pads, i didnt end up making and any implemeting them, but i think it was a nice idea, super trashy and chic, at the same time, like a cigarrette thats half way through.

ok here i actually started working on this shit, took me long enough. also i feel like i should mention it at this point but i basically cut out like part of this adidas shirt and sewed it inside the zip-up to make it like really wide, trynna go for the exaggeration and like faulty tailoring that was kind of the backbone of demna's balenciaga. i wrote CHOE over it, mainly because i wanted to but also for reasons that i mentioned previously. i thought id spray paint it with silver, the white posca didnt work, also i felt that it would pop more, and bring more attention to the name you know.
